Costs

While we are a non-profit charity Scouting needs to cover its costs (building, insurance etc) so we charge as follows.  Every Group’s costs are different so this may well differ from what other Groups charge.

Dragons Explorer Scout Unit are part of the District Explorer Scout provision and therefore do finances slightly differently though costs are similar.  Please contact the Explorer Leaders for more information on how this works in Explorers, and for who to make cheques payable to.

For Beavers, Cubs and Scouts…

  • The first week is free.
  • After that we charge £2 per week (cash/cheque) until the Scout is invested / the standing order is set up, please bring this to each meeting. We may collect this via the Standing Order instead, your Section Leader can advise you on this.
  • We charge £10 joining fee as a one off when we set up the Standing Order (this is not charged when moving from Beavers to Cubs or Cubs to Scouts). This covers the necker and other resources e.g. badge books that may be available to the young person throughout their time at The Saints.
  • After that the cost is £10 per month by standing order. (This differs from direct debit in that if your son/daughter leaves you need to cancel it at your end – we can’t do this for you).  Please complete this form and pass it back to us so we can make appropriate arrangements.
  • Some activities e.g. camps have a separate charge.  This can be paid online via OSM (in most cases), or at a Section meeting by cash or cheque.

We also invite parents to complete a Gift Aid declaration, as this allows us to claim back the tax paid on the membership fee. This doesn’t cost you any extra, but is worth over 20% extra to us!

We try to keep costs as low as possible, and if any Scout is struggling to attend for financial reasons please discuss this with a Leader. Generally we can’t refund bookings unless we cancel the event (we will already have spent money e.g. on accommodation and transport) – but if you know your son/daughter will be there it really helps if you can book as far in advance as possible.
